About / Practice
Sarah Price CMLI is one of the most prominent and sought-after garden designers in Britain. Drawing on a prior training in fine art and a life-long love of wild and natural environments, her gardens have a uniquely immersive quality and are often described as ‘painterly’.
Sarah’s practice is unusual for its breadth and scope of work. Sarah co-designed the 2012 Gardens at London’s Olympic Park and was a planting consultant for LDA Design on the post-Games legacy design. Price continues to work on several large public planting schemes as well as commercial and private projects. These include community gardens for The Exchange Arts & Community Centre in Erith, a recently opened Maggie’s Centre in Southampton, and a Horatio’s garden at a new NHS spinal ward at Llandough Hospital, Cardiff.
Private gardens are equally varied. Ongoing projects include a garden created at 1500 meters above sea level within the windswept Black Mountains, Wales and the regeneration of an iconic Grade 1 Arts and Crafts garden.
SPL places emphasis on sustainability and net biodiversity gain within their projects, creating new connective habitats for wildlife through sensitive designs and plantings, and endeavouring to add to, rather than remove and replace, existing habitats. A focus on local craftmanship to add aesthetic, environmental and social value to a garden demonstrates how care and skill are a sustainable, practical, economical, and beautiful alternative to imported materials and high-carbon design features.
